The original Agapé facility was purchased in 1999 by Rev. Scott Middleton. This founding facility is located in West Columbia, South Carolina, approximately one mile south of Lexington Medical Center. Since that time, Agapé Senior has expanded to provide seven additional assisted living facilities, three rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities, and 12 hospice sites.

The vision of Agapé Senior and Agapé Hospice, Inc. is to serve the people of South Carolina as an integrated health services company with a primary presence in strategic markets throughout the state. Agapé Senior is recognized as a senior services provider of distinction, which values its employees and functions in a financially responsible and stable environment.

The vision is based on a model of integrated services that is designed to assure responsiveness and quality of service for residents and their families. A cornerstone of this model of integrated services is the ability and desire of trained health professionals in a variety of fields to assess the unique and dynamic needs of each resident. The integrated services offered by Agapé are supported by physical, speech, and occupational therapy, in-house pharmacy services, medical equipment suppliers, ambulance and transportation services, life enrichment coordinators, chaplain services, and physician/nurse practitioner services.

Agapé Senior is a faith-based company, and our values reflect the qualities described in the nine fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23. These virtues are instilled in the care we provide to residents, patients, and families and are reflected in the way we interact with our customers and with each other. Our works are an expression of who we are. Our residents, families, and employees interact in an environment illuminated by the virtues of peace, love, joy, and patience. Our daily interaction with residents, families, and employees is guided by and reflected through the virtues of kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.

The Agapé Senior logo is based on the “nine-pointed star” that symbolizes the nine fruits of the Spirit listed in the Epistle to the Galatians found in the New Testament of the Bible. Significantly and appropriately, the Apostle Paul begins the list with “love” (agapé).

These nine fruits of the Spirit represent qualities we embrace and believe must guide our care for the residents of Agapé Senior. Navigational guidance based on a star or stars is historically and traditionally significant in each of the world’s great cultures.
