Inaugural Agapé Hospice Golf Classic Raises $5,000

Darlington, SC—Golfers from across the Pee Dee raised $5,000 on June 3 for the Agapé Senior Foundation, which assists elderly residents who need long-term care.

The first Agapé Hospice Golf Classic was held at the Darlington Country Club. Fifty-four golfers competed for team and individual prizes.

The tournament was organized by Agapé Hospice, the largest provider of hospice services in the Pee Dee. Agapé Hospice, in addition to providing end-of-life care, also helps educate the public about hospice services. Gold Sponsors were Pepsi of Florence and Total Care Gentiva.

Volunteers from Agapé Hospice, and their parent company Agapé Senior, set-up tents, carried water, filled coolers, packed goodie bags, and made sure everything else ran smoothly.

“Everything came together with no problems. The golfers and volunteers had fun,” remarked John Griggs, regional vice-president of marketing for Agapé Senior who organized the event.

As each team completed the course, they were served a buffet style dinner. Individual and team awards were presented followed by the grand prize drawing, a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona and two rounds of golf at the TPC Stadium Course and two rounds of golf at the Champions Course. Randy Johnson from Columbia was the lucky winner.

Net proceeds benefit the Agapé Senior Foundation, a non-profit entity formed in 2004 to support the ministries of Agapé Senior through education and fundraising. The foundation provides assistance to Agapé Senior residents whose financial resources may not allow them to remain under Agapé care. Since inception, Agapé Senior Foundation has donated over $5 million dollars to help pay long-term care costs for seniors across South Carolina.

“Each year Agapé Senior has seen a steady increase in demand for foundation grant assistance. To meet the increased demand, we are actively pursuing fundraising events along with the formation of partnerships with businesses and business leaders in each community we serve to help with the important mission of providing quality care for our senior population in South Carolina,” explained Lisa Livingston, executive director of Agapé Senior Foundation.

Agapé Senior is a network of residential and health-related companies with services across South Carolina. For more information about Agapé Senior, visit or call 1-800-411-AGAPÉ (2427).
